Assam Farmers Donate Paddy to Support Fight against CAA

Guwahati, January 19, 2020:

Farmers of Assam have donated paddy to extend their support to the ongoing fight against the amended Citizenship Act or CAA in the state.

The farmers of Sassoni Mouza under the Naharkatia Assembly Constituency in Assam donated as many as 645 bags of paddy (about 400 quintals), which accounts for about Rs 4 lakh, to the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) to strengthen the student body to fight the battle against CAA on the streets as well as in the Supreme Court.

They have also donated cash worth Rs. 80,000 to AASU. General Secretary of the apex student body, Lurinjyoti Gogoi received the donation on behalf of AASU. He was attending a protest event called ‘Singhanaad’ organized by the Sassoni unit of AASU.

More than 10,000 people of greater Sassoni mouza, which includes 72 villages and other parts of Naharkatia gathered at the protest event.

AASU Leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi said the indigenous people of Assam will never bow down in front of anybody. “This is a warning from Sassoni to Delhi and Dispur that Assamese people will never compromise on their identity issues,” he said, while addressing those gathered at Singhanaad.

The student leader also alleged that Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were both Liars. “They are dual-faced traitors. We want to firmly declare that our fight will continue till the supremacy of the indigenous people of Assam is ensured and the CAA is withdrawn,” he said.
