Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Leaves Assembly in Anger

Arguments are not all that uncommon in the Assam Assembly, and the ongoing session has been no exception to the rule as it has seen its fair share of quarrels and disagreements. In a sensational incident, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma walked out of the Assam Assembly in a huff after an altercation with opposition leaders on Tuesday.

The Minister was apparently enraged at the behavior of Congress' Rupjyoti Kurmi and Kamalakhya Dey who had questioned him about the BJP's 'Vision Document' released in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls in 2019.

After Biswa Sarma had said that the Assembly is no place to be discussing the 'Vision Document', the opposition MLAs raised a hue-and-cry over his statement, in response to which Sarma suggested that they be expelled. The Congress legislators became incensed, and the Assembly was adjourned by the Speaker Hitendranath Goswami.

It may be mentioned that the Finance Minister, on Monday, laid the statement on the Outcome Budget at the Assam Assembly today. Taking to Twitter, he had written: "I will lay the Statement on Outcome Budget 2018-19. In Assam, we not only lay Annual Budget on Floor of the House but also put up OutcomeBudget, a practice which I started for past 2 years."
