Assam: Five arrested in human trafficking case near Indo-Bhutan border, 7 adolescents rescued

BAKSA: As many as five persons have been arrested in a human trafficking case by police near the Indo-Bhutan border area in Assam’s Baksa district on Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, based on specific information about human trafficking, the Kumarikata police launched an operation near the Indo-Bhutan border, arresting human trafficking agents and rescuing several women and adolescents.

A team of Kumarikata police rescued seven adolescents and several women from a bus that was being trafficked to Gujarat from the Indo-Bhutan border in the Tamulpur subdivision of Baksa district out of the temptation of finding them work.

Police arrested the bus driver, his wife, and three other women along with the bus bearing the registration number GJ14V7111.

According to report, adolescents are tempted to set up jobs without informing their family members.

The vicious group was attempting to entice the adolescents to Gujarat by offering them work in fish factories in different parts of Gujarat.

The bus arrived in Assam from Gujarat to set up these jobs for women, youth, and adolescent girls in a fish factory in Gujarat named Rameshwari.

A case has already been filed against them in the Tamulpur police station.

It has been alleged that they have been involved in human trafficking for a long time.

Now, the question of how the bus arrived in Assam from Gujarat at a time when inter-district travel is prohibited in the state has been questioned.

An investigation on this is underway, however, for the sake of the investigation, the detainee did not want to be identified.

Furthermore, the police have made arrangements for the adolescents to be brought to the Baksa district Child Welfare Committee.
