Assam flood: 76 deaths, about 35 lakh people still affected in 3,014 villages

A total of 76 people have died in the ravaging deluge of the flood that has continued wreaking havoc across Assam. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, 3,014 villages across 28 districts in the state are reeling under floodwater.

A total of 35,75,832 people and 1,27,955 hectares cropland have been adversely affected so far in the flood. So far, 12,55,102 big animals, 6,52,552 small animals and 12,40,479 poultry affected.

Several rivers including the mighty Brahmaputra in different parts of Assam are flowing above danger level, causing floods and consequently leaving thousands of families homeless.

The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neematighat in Jorhat and Dhubri. Jia Dharali at NT Road Crossing and Kopili at Nagaon and Dhansiri at Numaligarh.

As per the latest data, the flood-affected districts are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Chirang,  Udalguri, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, West Karbi-Anglong, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Cachar and Charaideo.

Meanwhile, 711 relief camps have been installed. In the relief camps, there are so far 51,421 people.

Deaths: 5 more dead as on 17th July. Earlier, 5 more dead as on 16th July. Earlier, 7 people are dead as per the 15th July data. Earlier, 9 more dead as on 14th July. Earlier, 6 more dead on July 13th after 4 dead in Lakhimpur, Bongaigaon, Barpeta and Sivasagar. Earlier, 1 more death in Barpeta. Earlier, 1 more death in Dehmaji. 1 death in Raha. 1 more death in Mayong and Doomdoma. 1 more death in Athani. 1 death in Matia. 6 new deaths, with 1 in Chapar, 1 in Kaliabor, 3 in Baghbar and Sathebari and 1 in Tihu. 2 new deaths in Sarupeta and 1 in Dibrugarh. 4 deaths were announced on 29th June. 2 more deaths in Udalguri and Jonai, Assam. 2 deaths in Goalpara circle taking the death toll to 71. The total number of deaths from landslides is 24.

Flood-affected areas: Assam

The Kaziranga National park is badly affected with 95% area submerged and according to Forest department report, a total of 47 animals have died in this flood season and 70 animals have been rescued

Baksa Bhutan border areas in BTAD has scene a horrible incident. A person was stuck amid the flowing waters from the hills.

North-West Jorhat South Kaliya, Neul Gaon and Iporiya etc areas have been severely affected by the floods.

Over 20 villages in and around Dergon are severely affected with floods

Due to inundation of some portions of NH-37 between Kohora to Bagori, Sub-Divisional Administration of Bokakhat Sub-Division has promulgated prohibitory order u/s 144 of the Cr in Assam. PC prohibiting the movement of all kinds of vehicles on the flooded stretch of the highway in the interest of public safety.
