Assam Gana Parishad suspends party meetings for three days

GUWAHATI: The Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) has suspended all party meetings from November 24 for the next three day, mourning the death of 3-time former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

 The General Secretary of AGP Manoj Saikia said that the party’s meeting and other official works will remain suspended till November 26, as instructed by party resident Atul Bora.

The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to cancel all-party meetings and public rallies and functions till November 26.

Making the announcement, the Assam BJP party’s state General Secretary, Topon Kumar Gogoi, wrote, “As a mark of respect for the veteran, the President of the BJP Ranjeet Kumar Dass has suspended all party meetings and public rallies and functions till November 26.”

It needs mention here that Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday declared state mourning for 3 days from today (November 24) onwards. Gogoi’s last rites will be performed on November 26.

It was further informed that during this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast where it is regularly flown and that there will be no public entertainment during this period.

The Congress veteran passed away on Monday around 5:34 PM in the evening at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after battling post-COVID complications for over 2 months.

Gogoi’s last rites would be performed on November 26. It is being speculated that Gogoi’s last rites could be performed at Titabor, his Home Constituency.
