Assam has seen a rising number of cases in recent weeks. So far the state has 714 cases. 62 have been cured or discharged, 645 are active while four died due to the infection and three patients were migrated in Assam.

It may be mentioned that the state registered 116 cases on May 26th, 2020 while on May 25th, 2020, the state recorded 147 cases. On May 24th, 2020, Assam registered 46 COVID-19 cases while on May 23rd, 2020, the state registered 67 cases while 49 cases were reported on May 22nd, 2020.

This spike of cases is also in districts such as Kamrup (Metro) and Golaghat especially. Golaghat rose to 129 cases in quick succession. Upon analysing, it is found out that most of the cases are from outside the state.

The majority of the returnees of the state are from Chennai/Tamil Nadu. The southern state has been badly affected in the pandemic and so far has 17728 cases with 9342 cured and 127 deaths.

Thus, the migrants who came from the region were at risk to catch the covid19. There are already reports of how the migrants had to sleep in front of Assam Bhawan as one of the scheduled trains had got canceled. They were then kept in rehabilitation centres in Guru Nanak College Chennai, where social distancing was not followed as per the inmates.

As per reports, it was also the case in the special Shramik Chennai express they were brought in. The locals on duty in Golaghat allege that the migrant workers were indisciplined when they came back to their homes and were showing impatience. Reports of misbehavior within the quarantine centres have also emerged.

With more and more migrants coming back, the state govt expects around 12 lakh to follow suit. How the govt copes with the rising problem will be seen in the coming days?
