DIBRUGARH: Assam Governor Jagadish Mukhi on Thursday suspended Dibrugarh University Vice-Chancellor Ranjit Tamuli for "financial fraud."

 

Earlier, a four-member fact-finding committee was constituted to probe the alleged financial irregularities and misuse of public funds by Dibrugarh University vice-chancellor, Ranjit Tamuli.

 

A notification issued by the office of Assam Governor on Tuesday informed that the committee under the chairmanship of Preetom Saikia, state commissioner and secretary (higher education), would investigate the allegations, authenticate signature, handwriting, examine documents, interact with various persons concerned to ascertain facts and to do all necessary (as per law) to unearth facts.

The other members of the committee are Upper Assam commissioner Moloy Bora besides two scientific officers from the state directorate of forensic science, Rajiv Sensua and Israphil Musahari.

 

"In view of the above, the Governor of Assam in capacity as Chancellor of the Dibrugarh University has placed Prof. Ranjit Tamuli, Vice-Chancellor, Dibrugarh University under suspension, with immediate effect, until further orders, in order to ensure that witnesses are not influenced/coerced in any way and material records of the University are not tampered with in any manner whatsoever and in order to ensure a fair enquiry," stated a notification issued from the Governor's office.

 

Mukhi has temporarily assigned the duties to Professor R. N. S. Yadav, Department of Life Sciences, Dibrugarh University cum Dean, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Dibrugarh University, until further orders "so that the normal functions of the university are not hampered whatsoever and the interest of students and all stakeholders are upheld."
