Earlier, a day after the results of the Assam HSLC 2020 was declared, the Assam government on June 7th, 2020 has extended the contracts of 46,150 contractual teachers working across the state.

The teachers will get all the benefits at par with the government rules from now onwards, Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on June 7th, 2020.

Moreover, Sarma added that the tenure of teachers’ services has been extended to 60 years of age. “Hence, it can be said that now there is no difference between the contractual teachers and the government teachers in the state. Though we cannot regularize their services, we have tried to give them all facilities those the government teachers have been availing to date,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said that the teachers cannot not apply for transfer without completing 10 years of service at the first place of posting. “The Assam Governor has approved the act,” he said while adding that the government has made Assamese as a compulsory subject in all schools irrespective of government and private from Class I to Class X.
