Assam Govt Offers Financial Aid to Children of HPC Employees &13,000 Hostellers

Guwahati, February 12, 2020:

Assam government has announced financial aid for the children of Hindustan Paper Corporation employees to support in their studies.

The decision has come after days of protests of the children of HPC employees seeking donation for their studies. It may be mentioned here that the employees of the HPC have not received their salaries for the last 37 months, due to which they have been facing major financial crisis over the past months.

“For the first time, we have decided to offer financial help to the children of HPC paper mill employees. So the ones who are pursuing medical, engineering or PhD research, Rs. one lakh each. Rs. 50,000 for graduation courses or equivalent, Rs. 25,000 for HS students and Rs. 10,000 for Nursery to KG students," announced Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday also handed over financial aid of Rs. 7,000 each to as many as 13,000 students residing in hostels. “Colleges remain open for ten months. So, Rs. 700 for each ten months, i.e. Rs. 7,000 will deposited to the accounts of 13,000 hostel students. Next year we hope that till Higher Secondary level, we can provide free access to books," added the Education Minister.

Sarma also announced that year 2020 will be taking education to the doorstep of the people. “This year we have decided to establish degree colleges in several places like Kakopothar, Doomdooma, Borkhola in Cachar, Deithor in Karbi Anglong and Bokakhat. A University will also be set up in Golaghat.”
