Assam: Govt. to release Rs 660 crore covid expenditure bills by DCs

GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet announced to release the Rs. 660 crore spent by the District Deputy Commissioners in their respective districts during the COVID pandemic. Assam Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika informed that the decision was taken during the Cabinet meeting held today which was led by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The cabinet further decided to appoint international archery champion Sanjay Boro and boxing champion Jamuna Boro as inspectors of Excise Department.

It was decided to formally issue appointment letters to the duo at a function organized by the Assam Government on the occasion of Arjuna awardee Shri Bhogeshwar Baruah's birthday on 3rd September, said Hazarika

Neurologist Dr Shambuddha Dhar was appointed as a contractor at the Silchar Medical College for the convenience of Barak residents who were experiencing a shortage of neurologists during various accidents.

As a new administrative reform, an approval (ceiling) from the Finance Department as was required earlier for the "Orunodoi Scheme", a very crucial scheme, will not be required from now on. The department itself can grant this financial approval.

The Cabinet minister further went on to inform that the Assam CM had received a demand from the community that the erstwhile Orang National Park be renamed again as "Orang", a revered word amongst the tribal (tea community) people, which was changed to "Rajiv Gandhi National Park" in the days of the previous government. Respecting this demand, it was decided to rename the Rajiv Gandhi National Park as "Orang National Park".

“By virtue of the urgency shown by the Chief Minister, three new schemes have already been launched particularly for those affected by COVID. Today, it was again decided to provide a one-time relief of Rs. 1 lakh each under the "Prarthana Scheme" to the families of those who have died due to COVID, covering about 6500 thousand financially disadvantaged beneficiaries. On the day of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2nd, every Guardian Minister will distribute these cheques to the next of kin of the deceased in their respective districts,” Pijush added.
