GUWAHATI: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Assam, has demanded the state government to create an institution on the lines of UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) which will conduct all the recruitment exams for Assam Government jobs, if the APSC (Assam Public Service Commission) is unable or unwilling to rise up to the task.

"But under no condition should the task be outsourced to universities. The reaction has come after the recent debacle on SI (sub-inspector) exams which were cancelled earlier and held on 22nd November 2020 for the second time," the LDP said in a release.

“Paper leak and other irregularities are not new in Assam. Such allegation comes to surface almost after every recruitment exams. It has become a normal practice. But the way Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal tried to tackle this issue is way more bizarre. He wants our universities to conduct those exams. But what is the primary mission of a university? The primary mission of a university is to create knowledge; not to conduct police sub-inspector, constable, nurse or other recruitment exams. We talk about making our universities world class. How our government is expecting to do that when all the universities of the state will now be busy conducting recruitment exams?,” LDP State Chairman Shri Holiram Terang said.

LDP State President Shri Guna Gogoi said, “Forcing the universities to conduct recruitment exam is one the shining example of failure of the Sonowal government. We have a white elephant in the backyard called APSC which famous for everything except efficiency. Sonowal Government could not reform this institution in the last five years. We will not be surprise if the government wants our universities to conduct the civil services exams too.”

The LDP has also emphasized the need to create a single recruitment institution whose sole job will be" selection and recruitment of state government jobs."
