Assam Govt Withdraws Decision of 75% Seat Reservation for State Board Students

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday has also stated that under the new education policy, the state government has decided to make the subject of History and Geography compulsory for all students till Class X.

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has decided to withdraw its previous decision of reserving 75% seats in under-graduate courses for students passing out from state board.

Ranoj Pegu, Assam Education Minister on Friday said, “The 75% reservation of seats for Assam board students will not be applicable in urban areas. In urban areas, students from all boards will have to compete for a seat in degree courses. It will be purely on the basis of their merit.”

Apart from that Assam government on Friday has declared that the National Education Policy 2020 will be implemented in the state in a phase-wise manner.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday has also stated that under the new education policy, the state government has decided to make the subject of History and Geography compulsory for all students till Class X.

“Both the subjects will be added as compulsory subjects for all students invariably from all mediums. They will learn Assam and Indian history as well as geography up to class X. It will be included in the education syllabus.” He said.

The Assam government has also decided to implement ‘senior secondary school’ concept from 2022 under which all the high schools in the state will be ungraded to higher secondary schools with the inclusion of Class XI and XII.
