Assam: Heavy floods inundates Tamulpur villages, destroy farmlands as Puthimari river overflows

Heavy floods have inundated Tamulpur, Baksa, BTR Assam. The floods have been caused due to the overflow of the Puthimari river. This has affected Gandhibari people, especially of Gandhibari, North and South totally submerged underwater. This has led to a chaotic condition for people in and around the Gandhibari road, Highschool fields.

The source of the waters is coming from Bhutan overflowing especially from Balti, Matanga and Pagaldiya and other distributaries. This has entered villages and affected badly. In the Puthimari river water in Gandhibari, more than 100 bighas in farmlands are affected. Along with those veggies, which include ladies finder, chillis pumpkin etc all destroyed. The water has entered house and animals are also affected and people are not able to even cook because water is inside the house. For the last 2 days, it has been completely submerged. The Tamulpur Mohkumar admin has taken stock of the issue. Hemanta Kumar Rabha from Tamulpura BJP came to see the situation and has assured to take the concerns to the GOvernor as BTR is now under government rule.

Meanwhile, in Rangia, Assam Datikakhoriya, Kaurbaha, Khundikar, Madaikata, Dhepargain, Kayari, Ulubari, Kholbari, Sirakhundi etc areas Puthimari river submerged the aforementioned areas due to breakdown of the embankment.

So far, a total of 42 people have died in the ravaging deluge that has continued wreaking havoc across Assam. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, 3,575 villages across 29 districts in the state are reeling under floodwater.

A total of 26,33,976 people and 1,60,269.04 hectares cropland have been adversely affected so far in the flood.
