Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma inspects Navagraha crematorium today

GUWAHATI: Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday visited Navagraha crematorium to inspect the area ahead of the funeral of the former chief minister Tarun Gogoi which will be held on November 26 morning.

According to reports, the last rites of the veteran Congress leader will take place tomorrow at around 11 AM.

Himanta Biswa Sarma informed, “As per the consent of the Assam Congress and family members of Tarun Gogoi we have decided to perform the last rites at Navagraha. We have arranged in a way that we can accommodate 1000 people during the funeral. APCC President Ripun Bora urged us to arrange the crematorium so that it can accommodate 1000 people. By today the crematorium will be ready.”

 Sarma further informed that the government was ready to allot the land near Rajiv Gandhi Indoor stadium at Amingaon but the family members and Pradesh Congress later informed the government that they are ready to perform the last rites at Navagraha.

 “As Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will participate in the funeral there will be light security but I think that no tight security is required in such kind of situation. We don’t have much pressure on security arrangements,” the minister added.

The district administration and police administration has urged the people of the area to avoid the route of the Navagraha road as there will be traffic chaos in the area during the course of the time. Slow-moving vehicles have been barred from moving in the route for 3-4 hours.
