Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma Urges ULFA (I) to Join Peace Talks at Kokrajhar Rally

Kokrajhar, February 7, 2020:

Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma once again called out to the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA-I) to participate in the peace talks with the Centre.

While addressing the mega event celebrating the signing of the Bodo Peace Accord in Kokrajhar, Sarma said, “Today, from this very stage, I urge the ULFA-I and other militant organizations to join the Centre in the peace talks. I especially request the ULFA-I to come overground and join the discussions to promote peace in Assam.”

More than one lakh people gathered in Kokrajhar to celebrate the Bodo Peace Accord that was signed recently between the four factions of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) and central government. Over 1,615 cadres of different factions of the NDFB surrendered their arms and joined the mainstream within two days of the signing of the Bodo Peace Accord.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also arrived to join the celebrations of the historic Accord. The Assam Minister praised the Prime Minister for settling the long pending Bodo issue through the Accord.

Sarma also lauded the PM for signing of the Bru Agreement under his leadership. Speaking on the lines of the Bodo Accord, he said, “Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the historic Bodo Accord was signed. This step has not only brought peace to Bodoland but has also paved the path for permanent peace in the state of Assam.”
