GUWAHATI: Hiren Gohain, the noted intellectual who held the Raijor Dal's hands through its formative times until it became a full-fledged political party, today distanced himself from the party following leader Akhil Gogoi's 'controversial' remarks against the Badruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

Gohain, an anti-CAA activist who was appointed advisor to the party, today released a statement wherein he stated that Akhil's last decision goes against his long-time beliefs due to which he has resigned as an advisor from the Raijor Dal.

Gohain apparently believes that all parties must be on the same page to oust the BJP-led alliance from Dispur, which he considers to be a major threat to 'Assamese culture and integrity.'

The incarcerated Gogoi yesterday accused the Congress party of giving a fresh lease of life to AIUDF which he termed as “bad news for Assam’s society.”

“The AIUDF is actually strengthening the BJP. Even the minority community was bidding adieu to the AIUDF. But, Congress has given the party a fresh lease of life. The presence of AIUDF with the Congress is the only reason that the regional parties are not aligning with the Congress,” he wrote.

“I believe, it’s not yet too late. We can still find a solution. When Congress state chief Ripun Bora came to see me at the hospital, I told him the alliance with AIUDF was a historic blunder. I appealed to Gaurav Gogoi, Pradyut Bordoloi, and Ajit Kr Bhuyan to find a solution. They agreed in principle, but nothing materialized,” he added.

“I once again appeal not only to the political leaders, but also to all conscious people, intellectuals, journalists etc that we need to find a unanimous solution to get rid of the communal and fascist BJP and RSS in Assam because it is a question of existence of the Assamese society,” Gogoi concluded.
