GUWAHATI: Without informing the family members, the Swagat Hospital in Maligaon shifted a deceased COVID-19 negative patient to the Guwahati Neurological Research Centre (GNRC) in Guwahati for better treatment yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as Upen Lahakar (41), a resident of Pathsala, in Barpeta district.

Upen Lhkar was admitted to the Swagat hospital on May 14 and was undergoing treatment in the hospital.

He tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week and was admitted to the Barpeta Medical College and Hospital first, but he was later put in home isolation.

However, the second test showed that the patient was negative but on May 14, he was admitted to Swagat hospital following a weak health condition post-COVID.

Talking to Insidene the family members of the deceased said that, just after a day the patient was admitted to the Swagat hospital, he called his family and informed them that he was not treated well in the hospital.

Again on May 17, the patient repeatedly told his family that he would be killed if he was not taken away from the hospital, they added.

His family members said that following this they have also sent a mail to chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma seeking better treatment for the patient.

The medical authorities consistently claimed that the patient is improving, despite the fact that the patient was getting worse and worse, according to his family.

They said the deceased was sent to GNRC (North Guwahati) yesterday by the medical authorities without seeking their permission or their consent.

Upen's family alleged that they have lost him today due to medical negligence.
