Recently, state Water resource Minister Pijush Hazarika expresses concern over the COVID-19 situation in Sonitpur district.

“If people do not take the restrictions seriously, we may have to impose total lockdown”, added the Minister implying the possibility of lockdown.

“We understand that imposing total lockdown hinders work, business and establishments. Many people have to face various hardships. But considering the current situation, I would say that chances of total lockdown are not that thin”, added the Minister.

He further expressed concern over people not abiding by the COVID-19 protocols laid out by the state as well as central government.

“About 15 days back when I arrived at Sonitpur, I had to repeatedly request the people to not gather here for me breaking the COVID rules. But in spite of my requests, about a 100 people showed up”, added the Minister expressing disappointment.

The district currently has 621 active cases of COVID-19 with 3 deaths.
