In a political boost ahead of the general elections of the BTC, Assam, the United People’s Party Liberal gets extensive support from Kamatapur Progressive Party (KPP) in the council elections. The UPPL party has exuded of winning 30 seats of the 40-member assembly of the BTC Legislative Assembly in the council elections.

Addressing the joint Press Conference held at Kokrajhar Press Club on Tuesday, KPP president Pradip Roy, Secretary Uttam Roy and UPPL vice president Pratibha Brahma told that the Kamatapur Progressive Party(KPP) has decided to extend fully support to the UPPL party in the ensuing BTC council elections. Both party leaders have made announcement to work jointly in the council elections and also have agreed to contest next Assam and West Bengal assembly elections together bound next year.

KPP leaders said that for the greater interest and development of the Koch Rajbongshi community, the KPP has extended support and several issues as well subjects are going to be implemented by UPPL party through the spirits of BTR accord in days to coming. KPP party leaders also put promises to make fully support for making win in all 40 seats of the BTC council.

President of KPP, Pradip Roy said, “For the greater interest of the people of BTC region and to bring change thereby establish rule of law, healthy democracy, end 17 years of the corrupt regime of BPF, establish peace, create jobs, educational opportunities, etc, we have decided to extend full support to Pramod Boro led UPPL.”

He further said, “Support has been extended to UPPL on certain conditions such as nominating an MCLA from Koch Rajbonshi community, the formation of Koch Rajbongshi Development Board, support forming a strong Kamatapur Autonomous Council outside BTC region, introducing of Koch Rajbonshi language as a medium of instruction, construction of Chilarai Bhawan in each of the BTC district, Assam and various community welfare-related aspects.”

The UPPL leadership has conceded our (community) demands, and accordingly the KPP party has decided to work together not only in the ensuing BTC election but in the forthcoming assembly election too.

“We urge all the members of Koch Rajbonshi community and all the voters in general to vote for UPPL for a revolutionary change under the visionary leadership of Pramod Boro,” Roy added.

UPPL vice president Pratibha Brahma told that her party is winning in nearly 30 seats in the council to form the next council. She informed that party was fully prepared to contest the election. She has highlighted to bring corruption and anomalies free environment in the council by taking good governance initiatives.

"People are coming forward to vote in favour of UPPL party for getting Parivartan in the council", UPPL leader Brahma added.

She said, “Koch Rajbongshi is one of the most neglected and deprived communities of our region, if voted to power it will be our moral responsibility to work for all round development of this community. We are committed to fulfil the promises that we made to the KPP leaders in this regard”. 

The leadership of both the political parties exuded full confidence of winning the BTC election with full majority. While being asked, Chinmoy Dey, chief convenor of the central election steering committee of UPPL said, “17 years of misrule and corruption has acted as a strong anti-incumbency factor for BPF. 

Moreover, the historic BTR accord has acted in UPPL’s favour, thus, without any doubt we will be winning more than 30 seats whenever the election is held.”
