Guwahati, November 29, 2019:

The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samii (KMSS), which is one of the most influential farmers' bodies in the state, staged a massive protest in Assam capital Dispur, and demanded land pattas for the indigenous 'sons of the soil' who have settled in urban areas in 2011, or earlier.

The KMSS Chief Akhil Gogoi has demanded land pattas for the indigenous Assamese. Gogoi also condemned the new Land Policy 2019 of the Assam Government, and stated, "Under the 14th , only 1 katha, 5 lasa has been promised to people to people who have settled on a plot of land -- on the condition that they do not have land anywhere else."

Gogoi alleged that this proves that the Government's new land policy is 'anti-indigenous', and the people should be be given the land rights of the people who have settled. "This targets the indigenous people in the metros", Gogoi alleged, adding that only rich businessmen will be able to own land in Assam now.
