GUWAHATI: The last rites of departed Congress leader will be held on November 26, sources have informed. The Congress veteran passed away today around 5:34 PM in the evening at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after battling post-COVID complications for over 2 months.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Ripun Bora today said that Gogoi's body will be shifted to the Srimanta Kalakshetra in Guwahati's Panjabari area for public viewing for 2 days. "Earlier today, when his (Tarun Gogoi's) son Gaurav came to know that he was in a critical state, he conveyed that it is the family's wish that his father's body be kept at the Srimanta Kalakshetra. Around 9 AM, his body will be shifted to his official residence first. It will also be taken to the Congress headquarter Rajiv Bhawan, where members of the Grand Old Party will pay their respect to the party stalwart. His body cannot be immediately taken out as embalming needs to be performed -- a process that could take 4-5 hours," Bora told media persons after reaching the GMCH.

The Congress leader also informed that Gogoi's last rites would be performed on November 26. It is being speculated that Gogoi's last rites could be performed at Titabor, his Home Constituency.

My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of sadness.
