GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Saturday announced the launch of an enhanced COVID-19 vaccination drive starting from June 21.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to make the announcement.

The Chief Minister said that he conducted a video conference with DC, SP, Joint Director of Health Services & Principals of Medical Colleges to ensure the success of the vaccination drive.

He further directed the district administration to strive to achieve the target of 3 lakh vaccinations every day, from June 21 to June 30, in the state.

All guardian ministers & secretaries have been directed to camp at their respective districts for the next seven days to ensure maximum vaccination.

He added that there will be no separate category based on age for vaccination.   Central Govt will provide COVID19 vaccines to 18+ people free of cost.

The State Government will provide an assistance of Rs 100/day to vaccination workers for transportation cost & other expenses.

Talking about the timings of vaccination, the Chief Minister said that vaccination will continue from 8 am to 8 pm, in two shifts in urban areas while in rural areas it will be from 8 am to 1 pm.

2000 vaccination centres will be set up across Assam. At every vaccination centre, there will be a designated worker to help in on-the-spot registration.

Sarma further urged Health Dept to maximise publicity to bring maximum people to vaccination centres. He also appealed to NGOs & social organisations including political workers to motivate people to take part in the vaccination drive.

He encouraged all the govt & private sector employees including the shopkeepers etc to come forward for vaccination at the earliest to be able to join their workplaces soon.

The Chief Minister further directed the officials to ensure targeting vulnerable pockets like tea garden as well for vaccination.
