Assam Medical College & Hospital suspends cash-for-jobs 'kingpin' Ajanta Hazarika

DIBRUGARH: Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh has suspended Ajanta Hazarika, a prime accused in a cash-for-jobs scam.

She has been removed from the posts of Additional Superintendent of Assam Medical College & Hospital, as well as the Deputy Superintendent of the proposed Tinsukia Medical College. She has also been suspended from the post of Resident Surgeon of Plastic Surgery of Assam Medical College & Hospital.

"The suspension order was issued by the Additional Secretary, Health, Government of Assam two days ago," said Dr Prashanta Dihingia, Superintendent, AMCH.

Dr. Hazarika is in judicial custody after her arrest by Dibrugarh Police in connection with Dibrugarh PS case no. 2150/20 (filed on December 7) in relation to a cash-for-jobs scam. The CJM court had sent Dr. Hazarika to judicial custody after she surrendered before it.

After being on the run for 21 days, Ajanta Hazarika finally surrendered before the court of chief judicial magistrate (CJM) in Dibrugarh last Monday.

Dibrugarh Police has also arrested Simanta Jyoti Saikia, the husband of Dr Hazarika in connection with the case.

The FIR was filed against Dr Hazarika by Amol Nath at Gabharupathar police outpost in Dibrugarh on December 7, 2020.

It has been alleged that Dr Hazarika had taken about Rs 22 lakh from three job aspirants from Dibrugarh with a promise to provide jobs in the Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR).
