The gruesome incident took place in Doboka’s Changmaji village, where the three minor boys were caught for allegedly stealing a coconut from the tree of local resident Jakir Hussain. They were subsequently tied to a tree, beaten up; their heads shaved and poured with acid. In that condition, they were made to roam around the area. Later, they were handed over to Dabaka Police station.

There have been allegations that the Doboka Police did not accept the FIR by these minor boys’ parents. They also alleged that the police did not take action against any of the members of the mob.

Speaking to Inside Northeast, Founder of UTSAH Child Rights Organization, Miguel Das Queah stated, “UTSAH got to know about this terrible incident through social media. This type of beating of children is a gross violation of children’s rights and amounts to cruelty and is therefore punishable under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act. Sections of IPC for 'grievous hurt' and 'attempt to murder' would also be applicable. We have requested the Police to take immediate action. We have also asked the Police to present the children to the CWC for necessary rehabilitation. UTSAH will follow up with the case so that the perpetrators are punished and the victims recieve adequate support to come out of this trauma."
