Assam MLAs to receive Rs. 25,000 if shifted to rented premises: Speaker

GUWAHATI: Amid conflicts among the legislators of Assam Legislative Assembly regarding their government residences after many failed to book a residence of their choice among newly erected buildings, Assembly speaker Biswajit Daimary has presented a new solution to end the squabble once for all.

Speaker Biswajit Daimary has announced that MLAs who did not get a government residence at newly constructed buildings of MLA colony will receive Rs 25,000 each month from the government if they manage their own residence.

Legislators have been upset about not getting a new residence even before their oath-taking ceremony.

Many started living in the building even before the construction work could be done. It was also reported that how families of many legislators visited the under constructed building frequently to book a residence of their choice.

But now, since many opposition legislators failed to get one residence in the new building, speaker Daimary stepped up to announce a Rs 25,000 to rent a non-government residence of their choice.

The order came into force with immediate effect and if any legislator wants to go for a rented apartment tomorrow itself, they get the compensation of Rs 25,000 from the government, said Daimary.
