ASSAM: MONITORING OF SCHEMES IN CHIRANG DISTRICT

The National Commission for Scheduled Tribe (NCST) led by its Chairperson Nand Kumar Sai, accompanied by Vice-Chairperson Anusuiya Uikey and officials on Thursday visited Chirang district to monitor the schemes being implemented by the Agriculture, Health, Education, Public Health Engineering departments in tribal areas.

Replying to a question asked by the media persons in the press meet on their purpose of visit to state, the NCST Chairperson said we are visiting some tribal areas of Assam to review whether the welfare schemes for tribal people are being implemented in equitable share and justification at the rural areas as well as to evaluate the progress of developmental works and examine the rules and regulations observed by the authorities in case of appointment and promotion of Scheduled Tribes people.

"The Commission is taking proper steps for safeguarding their interest and accelerating their socio-economic development", he added.

Regarding continuous encroachment in Tribal Belt and Block areas in the state by non tribal people, the chairperson said that the commission is taking serious concern on the issue and decided to discuss the matter carefully with the state government.

Earlier, the commission visited Bongaigaon Refinery (BGR) of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. and held meeting with the Scheduled Tribe Employees Association and management on various issues relating to welfare of the tribal employees. The Commission also visited Bongaigaon Refinery Plant and took stock of the functioning of the plant in presence of Chief General Manager G.C. Sikder and other officials of Chirang district.
