Assam: Mortal remains of martyred Hardhan Chandra Roy arrives in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The mortal remains of martyred Army havildar Hardhan Chandra Roy have arrived at the Guwahati Airport at around 5:30 pm on Sunday.

According to reports, the mortal remains of the country’s braveheart has been taken to the mortuary of the Base Hospital from the airport and will move to Dhubri in an ambulance at night.

The final wreath-laying ceremony of martyred Roy will be held at his native village in Dhubri district on Monday.

Assam’s Haradhan Roy was among the 5 soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice at the Line of Control on November 13, 2020.

Haradhan Roy, who hails from Bilasipara in Dhubri district, has left behind a 2-year-old child.

In a major flare-up along the Line of Control, eleven people including five soldiers were killed in ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops in several areas in north Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

Four soldiers of the army, a Border Security Force (BSF) sub-inspector were killed in Pakistani firing, the officials said.

Six civilians — including a woman — were also killed in various areas. Pakistani forces used mortars and other weapons.

Indian forces strongly retaliated to the shelling and army sources said there have been multiple casualties on the Pakistani side.

Around 6-7 Pakistan army soldiers, including two SSG (Special Service Group) commandos, have been killed and 10-12 injured, army sources said.

The Indian Army on Sunday paid tribute to Havildar Hardhan Chandra Roy, Naik Satai Bhushan Rameshrao, Gunner Subodh Ghosh and Sepoy Jondhale Rushikesh Ramchandra, who made the supreme sacrifice on 13 November 2020 in North Kashmir.

Army General MM Naravane and all other ranks of the Army saluted the supreme sacrifice of the Bravehearts.

“General MM Naravane #COAS and all ranks salute the supreme sacrifice of Havildar Hardhan Chandra Roy, Naik S B Rameshrao, Gunner Subodh Ghosh & Sepoy J Rushikesh Ramchandra; offer deepest condolences to the families,” the Indian Army tweeted.
