KOKRAJHAR: Lok Sabha MP and GSP President Naba Kumar Sarania (Heera Sarania) on Tuesday night was detained by the police after electoral violence occurred at the Salakati in the Kokrajhar district of Assam at around 11:30 pm. The MP was detained on suspicion of money distribution to the voters moment after the ending of the election campaigning hour ahead of BTC second phase election.

The police brought Naba Sarania and his supporters to the Salakati outpost and later shifted to the Kokrajhar police station.

After nearly eight hours, on Wednesday morning Naba Kumar Sarania has been released from Kokrajhar Sadar police station on bail.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Kokrajhar police station against Naba Sarania under Case No 143/171C, 177A.

Talking to the media, Sarania said that it was conspiracy against him since his GSP party is winning seats in the ongoing BTC council elections.

The second phase of BTC elections in the Kokrajhar and Chirang district will be held on December 10 and counting of votes will be held on December 12.

BJP, Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), and the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), and the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) are contesting the elections solo. Meanwhile, the Congress and the AIUDF parties are contesting together, in what is being seen as a precursor to an alliance for the Assembly polls for 2021.
