A total of 817 passengers arrived in Guwahati after the flight services were resumed after two months following the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

As per information, four to five more flights are supposed to land at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport by today evening.

Out of 817 passengers, 227 are from Delhi, 341 are from Bengaluru, 160 from Chennai and 89 passengers are from Imphal in Manipur.

It may be mentioned that lakhs of people of the state were stranded in different parts of the country following the suspension of trains services and flight services. The Indian Railways had started train services for the stranded migrant workers on May 13th, 2020. It will run 200 more trains in addition to the existing trains from June 1st, 2020. Over 8000 people, who were stranded in other states, have returned via Shramik Special Train to the state.

The state government has set up all arrangements at the LGBI Airport for proper screening and sample collection of the flight passengers. The passengers, who are found symptomatic, will be shifted to quarantine centre directly by following the Health Ministry guidelines and the COVID-19 protocol, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The government has asked all passengers to download the Aarogya Setu application on their mobile devices and states to ensure thermal screening. Passengers have also been asked to reach the airport two hours before departure and maintain social distancing.

The domestic air travel resumed on May 25th, 2020, even as number of states were unenthusiastic about the opening up their airports in view of the rising coronavirus cases. The flight services resumed two months after the lockdown was enforced to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The first domestic flight took off from New Delhi for Pune while a Patna-bound flight was the first to take off from Mumbai.
