Tamulpur: Now, protests have begun in Assam's Tamulpur demanding the quick conduct of the polls in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area. Today's protest was conducted on the main road of Tamulpur by the Oboro Suraksha Samiti -- an organization comprising non-Bodo people from the Bodo-dominated belt of Assam. Kokrajhar MP Naba Kumar Sarania fronted Gana Suraksha Party was also a part of the protests held today.

All these organizations sloganeered hard and demanded an end to the Governor's Rule in the BTC that has been necessitated by the deferment of the polls in the area due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation. The protesters said that they would not accept the transformation of the BTAD into the BTR at any cost and condemned the Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP Government in Assam for bringing about the changes that have led to the terraforming of the region after the signing of the all-important Accord in January of this year.

Some of the prominent leaders of the non-Bodos -- such as Bhaskar Kalita of the Oboro Suraksha Samiti -- were present during the protest. Several leaders of the 'Gana Suraksha Party' were also present.`

It needs mention here that Assam's cabinet had on October 7 decided to request the State Election Commission to hold the postponed BTC election in December 2020. The elections are expected to be held sometime in mid-December.
