Inaugurating the two-day training programme at Nazrul Sadan auditorium here, District Development Commissioner, FR Laskar urged the Haj pilgrims to perform their rituals in Mecca and Medina with calm composure and serenity to avoid any hassle during the pilgrimage.

Extending his greetings and best wishes, Laskar requested the pilgrims to pray for peace, progress and prosperity of Assam, the nation and the whole world.

Addressing the congregation, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Member Secretary, District Haj Committee, Amalendu Roy disclosed that 281 selected pilgrims where 233 male and 48 female will perform Haj from Hailakandi district this year.

Executive Member, State Haj Committee, Abdul Hannan Tapadar spoke on the logistic arrangements and rituals associated with Haj. He wished the pilgrims safe journey and smooth performance of Haj rituals. MLAs Anwar Hussain Laskar and Nizamuddin Choudhury were present on the occasion.

“The pilgrims are being trained for boarding, lodging, accommodation, currency exchange and other activities to be performed during the pilgrimage. The Haj Committee of India has also issued guidelines for pilgrims. The training has a twin purpose for us in whom we focus on logistics support and rituals. We prepare our pilgrims for every situation, whether it is the temperature, food or communication barriers," said Joint Secretary, District Haj Committee and master trainer, Abul Hussain Mazarbhuiyan.

Medical camps are being conducted by Joint Director, Health Services for administrating vaccines to the selected pilgrims on July 1 and 2. Four master trainers are conducting the training programmes for the selected pilgrims.

During the training programmes, authorities are distributing special pamphlets and many experts are giving brief lectures about the pilgrimage of Haj. The pilgrims are happy and appreciating the authorities for organising the training programmes, which is aimed at benefitting them. "I am happy to be here as the training is helping us to a great extent. We are learning about many new things we never thought of earlier," said a pilgrim. The first batch of Haj pilgrims from the district will depart from India on July 14. The embarkation points for North East Haj pilgrims are Guwahati and Kolkata.
