GUWAHATI: As many as 1,07,149 government posts are lying vacant according to data revealed by the government on the Assam Assembly floor.
In a written reply by the government on the Assembly floor has stated that the Education Department has the highest vacancy of 50,465 posts.
The Home and Political Department has a total of 20,248 vacancies followed by the Health and Family Welfare Department with 9353 vacancies.
Four departments have vacancies in over 2000 posts each, five departments have over 1,000 vacancies each and 13 departments have over 500 vacancies in each.
There are over 20 departments that have vacancies below 500.
This came as a shock, when the government has been constantly speaking of creating one lakh job opportunities for unemployed youth each year, already has more than one lakh jobs vacant.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has asserted today to create one lakh jobs in the education department today.
On the other hand, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia has slammed the government for not filling the vacancies when the state is under tremendous pressure of unemployment.
