More than 400 passengers of Kanyakumari-Dibrugarh Vivek Express rushed out of the railway station in Morigaon district of Assam apparently to evade mandatory COVID-19 tests.

The passengers were mostly migrant workers including women and children.

The incident took place at Jagiroad railway station when the passengers rushed out of the station soon after the train arrived on Sunday morning.

After around 20 passengers were tested, some of the other passengers stampeded out of the station creating an uproar.

Although the the authorities tried to stop them they could hold back only a few.

A video of the incident has been doing rounds on social media where the passengers can be seen fleeing from the station without giving a heed to the orders of the health workers and authorities.

The video has created an outrage among the netizens as Assam is currently at the top of the COVID tally with highest number of positive cases in the northeast. As such, incidents like this pose a threat of widespread contraction of the virus.

More details awaited.
