Assam: People burn Udalguri quarantine centre after misinformation

A dangerous incident transpired in Mazbat, Udalguri in BTR Assam when the inmates of a quarantine centre, damaged it and destroyed items. The people ravaged the entire area leading to an uproar in the region.

The incident occurred in Mazbat University Quarantine in Assam when people burnt the beds and damaged property. In the meantime, police, health professionals and fire officials have rushed to the centre.

People close to the matter reveal that fear-mongering happened after 2 people were found to be positive in the quarantine centre.

This case has highlighted the lack of information and fear surrounding the covid 19 pandemic in Assam. The state needs to create mass awareness and further educate its people about coronavirus.

Assam cases so far

A total of 263 people tested positive for COVID-19 on June 12th, 2020 in Assam. With this, the number of total cases has gone up to 3693.

195 confirmed new cases, were also detected on the night of 12th June in Assam.

Of the 3693 confirmed cases, 2098 are active and 1584 have been cured and discharged while 8 died due to the infection so far in Assam.

Assam has crossed the 1000-mark in 60 days. It reported the first case on March 31st, 2020.

India has crossed the 2 lakh-mark in terms of corona positives on June 3rd. As on June 13th, the country currently has 309K confirmed COVID-19 cases, 145779 active cases with 154329 cured and discharged. The total number of deaths is 8884.
