Assam: Pijush Hazarika visits Darrang Scheme Beneficiary Households

GUWAHATI: Minister for Information and Public Relations, Water Resources, Parliamentary Affairs and etc departments, Pijush Hazarika today made an official stop-over at Darrang district to interact with beneficiaries of flagship central and state government welfare schemes meant for economically and socially weaker sections of the society.

GUWAHATI: Minister for Information and Public Relations, Water Resources, Parliamentary Affairs and etc departments, Pijush Hazarika today made an official stop-over at Darrang district to interact with beneficiaries of flagship central and state government welfare schemes meant for economically and socially weaker sections of the society.

Making a departure from earlier protocols when beneficiaries would congregate at a particular venue for interaction with visiting dignitaries, Hazarika visited the residences of seven beneficiaries at six locations in the district.

Visiting the residence of 61-year-old Thagiram Kalita - a beneficary of Atal Amrit Abhiyan and who underwent a heart surgery under the scheme - of Menapara under Chapai Gaon Panchayat, the minister inquired about the ease of accessibility of the Atal Amrit scheme at empanelled hospitals for treatment, and sought feedbacks on how to make it more beneficiary-friendly.

Speaking to media, Hazarika stated: "The aim of my visit is not just to find out how these schemes have benefited the weaker sections (of society) but to also take valuable feedbacks so that the lacunas in them can be rectified..." "Ensuring the implementation of every welfare schemes efficiently is one of the prime focus area of the government led by the honourable chief minister," Hazarika added.

The minister also visited beneficiaries of schemes ranging from Orunodoi, Pradhan mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), Widow Pension, Old Age Pension, Deen Dayal Upadhya Divyangyan Pension to Covid-19 Widow Support Scheme.

While interacting with Rekha Nath, a beneficiary of Orunodoi scheme - a poverty alleviation scheme that facilitates a minimum monetary assistance to economically deprived households - Hazarika hinted at raising the amount of asistance from the current Rs.1,000 per month in the next couple of years, while assuring of all sort of assistance from the government in every walks of life.

It is worth mentioning that today's visit to their residences by a senior member of the Assam Council of Minister was highly appreciated by the beneficiaries and their family members. "We had not experienced anything like this before... we feel blessed to have a senior minister of Assam government visit out house and intercat with us...", a family memeber of one of the beneficiaries stated.

The minister was accompanied by Darrang Deputy Commissioner Prabhati Thaosen, District Development Commissioner Subhalakshmi Deka, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Pallavi Kachari, among others.
