Guwahati: In a shocking incident reported from Assam, a police personnel of the Assam Police Radio Organization (APRO) has reportedly been suspended for donning a cap while on duty.
The man in question, Shaukat Ali, a Sub-Inspector of the APRO was suspended after a picture in which he was wearing a skull cap (associated with the Islamic faith) went viral.
Confirming the development, ADGP S N Singh told Inside Northeast that the man’s photo was clicked in Amingaon. “He says that he forgot to take off the cap after offering Namaz. However, there is reason to believe that he was totally being honest. He was posted at the Message Coordination Centre in Dispur. He was suspended for the breach of the uniform code, which is a very serious violation.”
Needless to say, Ali’s suspension has caused a stir across Assam, with many sections of the public claiming that perhaps the sentence is too harsh.
This development has come days after a bearded Muslim policeman in Uttar Pradesh was suspended for sporting a beard.
Intesar Ali, a man belonging to the Muslim faith, was ordered thrice to take permission to grow a beard and was finally suspended from the force for “non-compliance.”
Abhishek Singh, the SP of Baghpat, said that as per the police manual., only policemen belonging to the Sikh community can keep beards while all others must remain clean-shaven.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for more developments.
