GUWAHATI: Amid the rising border tensions between Assam and Mizoram, Assam police has started setting up to camps to keep vigil alongside the border.
Appreciating the effort, Special DGP GP Singh informed that the team has been led by SP Ramandeep Dhillon.
Tension brewed yet again at the Assam-Mizoram border after the Mizoram police accused its Assam counterpart of destroying two makeshift camps built by them.
The Assam police claimed that they were dismantled the huts as those were encroaching forest land inside their territory in Hailakandi district located at the border of Mizoram’s Kolashib.
On the other side, Kolasib Superintendent of police Vanlalfaka Ralte said that several policemen led by the Assam’s Hailakandi SP and deputy commissioner camped at their territory. He added that local farmers were forced to flee fearing the armed personnel might attack them.
A chief-secretary level talk will be held on July 9 to discuss about the issue.
The border dispute between two states has been there since a long time which remains unresolved till date.
