GOLAGHAT: Assam police personnel and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are today jointly carrying out 'area domination' in Golaghat district's Bokakhat sub-division amid a continued spike in the number of COVID-19 cases.

Talking to InsideNE, Golaghat's Superintendent of Police Robin Kumar informed that the area domination is being carried out to instill a "sense of security" on the directions of the state government.

"Tomorrow, the area domination will be carried out in Golaghat sub-division and the day after, it will be carried out in Sarupathar," Kumar stated, adding that it will begin around noon and last for 2-3 hours.

According to the SP, this area domination has been necessitated by the rising COVID-19 curve in the Upper Assam district.

Golaghat -- along with six other districts-- is currently under 'total containment' due to a steep rise in COVID-19 infections.

It needs mention here that Minister of Industries and Commerce Chandramohan Patowary yesterday reached Golaghat to take stock of the COVID-19 situation.

In yesterday's meeting, which was also attended by Bokakhat MLA and Minister Atul Bora, and several others, it was decided that those below the poverty line who do not have cards will be given Remdisivir medicine free of cost. Additionally, the officials have warned to shut down shops that do not comply with the guidelines for one whole week.

It needs mention that Golaghat yesterday registered 209 cases of COVID-19 -- second only to Kamrup (Metro) with 247 cases. However, no casualties were reported.

The state currently has 21,689 active cases and 5,01,869 people infected with the virus have recovered from the infection.
