Assam Police Launches Helplines for "Tele-Counseling" with Mental Health Experts on COVID-19

Assam has initiated a program of counselling to help COVID-19 patients and general public to deal with the prevailing situation of coronavirus terror.

Assam Police and Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) & Clinical Psychologists or Psychiatric Social Workers have joined hands to provide tele-counseling for the ones who are in need of mental heath support.

The mental health professional will be available from 9 AM to 9 PM everyday at the service of public to ward off the apprehensions regarding COVID-19. The helplines that will be working from 9 AM to 3 PM are - 6026901053, 6026901054, 6026901055. and the ones that will be available from 3 PM to 9 PM are - 6026901056, 6026901057 and 6026901058.

It may be mentioned here that with rising COVID-19 cases in Assam, currently 26, the Government departments and authorities are trying to support the public in the best way they can. While the medical staff have been working day and night under the leadership of Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Police department has also been religiously doing their duties.

Apart from monitoring lockdown movements and attending to the needy, the Assam Police department will now be providing tele-counseling for all those in need of advice on coronavirus.

Assam Update:

Assam's latest positive case has been reported from Dhubri district. This patient is also said to have links with the Nizamuddin Markaz event in Delhi that was held in March last.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Alert ~ one more Covid 19 positive case from Dhubri District has been confirmed, taking the total number in Assam to 27. This patient is related to Nizamuddin Markaz event in Delhi.”

Out of the 27, 26 cases are related to the Tablighi Jamaat event held at the Nizamuddin Markaz. The Assam Police, in an “urgent message”, has also appealed those who took part in the Tablighi Jamaat congregation to come forward by 6 am tomorrow, or face consequences.

“This is the final appeal to those people who have come to Assal after being present at the Nizamuddin Markaz or have been to a state or country affected by COVID-19 recently”, wrote the Assam Police in its message posted yesterday.

All such individuals are requested to present themselves at the nearest Hospital or PHC by 6 am tomorrow, that is April 7. Conversely, they can also call the 104 helpline number to report, said the Assam Police.

Currently, there are a total of 3981 active cases of the virus in India. 114 people have died of the virus and 325 have been discharged according to health ministry data.
