Another Assam police personnel succumbed to COVID-19 on July 20th, 2020. The deceased has been identified as NK Rajesh Narzary, 9th APBn.

With him, the Assam police, which is fighting from the front against COVID-19, has lost two personnel.

Earlier, on July 10th, 2020, Hav. Hareswar Nath, 16 IRBn succumbed to the lethal virus. He was tested positive for COVID-19 on July 7th, 2020. Nath (53) was a non-symptomatic patient with no comorbidities. His oxygen levels plummeted to 90 within hours and hence he collapsed.

GP Singh, additional director general of police (ADGP), law and order, also took to Twitter, “Hav. Hareswar Nath, 16 IRBn, who tested positive for #CoronaVirus on July 7, 2020 passed away today. Our deepest condolences with the bereaved family and colleagues. @assampolice rededicates itself to the service of people of Assam.”

The COVID-19 confirmed cases in Assam police has increased to 869 on July 19th, 2020. Of the 869 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 484 have been cured and discharged so far while 50 police personnel joined back their service.

Director-General of Police, Assam Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta wished the infected police personnel a speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, the state recorded 1018 new COVID-19 cases on July 19th, 2020 taking the total to 23,999, state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed. Of 1018 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 577 were reported in Guwahati alone.

Of 23,999 total confirmed COVID-19 cases, 7916 are active and 16023 have been cured and discharged so far while 57 died due to the infection.

Assam reported highest ever spike in COVID-19 cases on July 17th, 2020. It reported 1218 new COVID-19 cases including 570 from Guwahati alone. The state crossed 20,000 mark in COVID-19 cases on July 16th, 2020 while crossed the 1000-mark in 60 days. It reported the first case on March 31st, 2020.
