Assam police nabs criminal wanted in Bengaluru burglary case

HAILAKANDI:  In a major breakthrough, Hailakandi district police have arrested a criminal who was involved in a burglary case in Bengaluru.

The police have also recovered gold ornaments worth around Rs 8 lakh, cash worth Rs.55,000 of 500 denomination, a Toyota Etios car bearing registration No.KA 53 E- 2953, 21 numbers of old one rupee silver coin dating back to 1903-1919, and a mobile handset with two SIM cards from his possession.

The accused has been identified as Minhaz Uddin Barbhuiya (27), a resident of Jamira Bagan Basti.

According to Superintendent of Police Pabindra Kumar Nath,based on inputs received from Bengaluru police through Assam Police headquarters, a confidential enquiry was made about the hiding of a criminal in Hailakandi district who was involved in a burglary case in Bengaluru.

Hailakandi district police immediately called its Bengaluru counterpart, and the investigating officer of Marathahalli Police Station flew in from Bangalore on Thursday to take the accused in transit remand from the court.

"During interrogation, the apprehended person disclosed that he had been living in Bengaluru for the past seven years and working as an Uber driver and that he had recently returned to his hometown. the accused allegedly admitted to breaking open a vault containing gold ornaments, silver coins, and cash from a person in Bengaluru with the help of a maid servant," Nath added.
