Assam Police seizes truck carrying elephants from Arunachal Pradesh

MAKUM: Tinsukia Police seized a truck carrying two elephants suspected to be smuggled from Arunachal last night near Makum town.

Reportedly, the Makum police received information from some sources about the possible smuggle of jumbos and launched an investigation into the matter-- they were finally able to detain the vehicle with registered number BR 01 GH 0435.

"The elephants were being transported from Arunachal Pradesh to Odisha. But Makum Police retained them and informed us. We will look into the matter now," said a Doomdooma forest official.

The driver of the truck said, "One named Sanjeev had told us to transport these two elephants from Lathao to somewhere in Odisha. But the police here had detained our truck and now checking the papers."

The Makum police have transferred the case to the Doomdooma forest department along with the two elephants and they will enquire about the matter.
