Guwahati, July 30, 2019:

Congress MP Sanjay Singh on Tuesday resigned from the 'grand old party' as well as the Rajya Sabha and is all set to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, according to reports.

Sanjay Singh mentioned that the reason for resigning from the Congress is because of "zero leadership" in the party.

Addressing the media, Sanjay Singh said “Congress is still in the past. The country today is with PM Modi and if the country is with him I'm with him. I will join BJP tomorrow.”

Moreover, he added that he had been with the Congress since 1984, and his decision of leaving won't impact Congress in any way.

He had lost his seat to BJP's Maneka Gandhi in the recent Lok Sabha election from Sultanpur.

His wife Amrita Singh has also tendered resignation from her post as the chairperson all India Professional Congress in UP.

Sanjay Singh is a politician from the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. He was twice elected to the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh during the 1980s and held state ministerial posts.

In 2009, he was successful in obtaining a second term in that house as a member of the 15th Lok Sabha representing the Sultanpur constituency of Uttar Pradesh. He currently represents the state of Assam in the Rajya Sabha.
