Assam receives 50,000 more doses of Covishield vaccine for 18-44 age group

GUWAHATI: Assam today received 50,000 more doses of Covishield vaccine to inoculate people in the 18-44 age group.

The state’s total vaccine availability for the 18-44 age group currently stands at 1,66,709.

The COVID-19 vaccination drive for this age group started in the state yesterday.

The vaccination drive was ceremonially launched at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and Guwahati Press Club (GPC) on Thursday.

The vaccination drive for this age group has been going on across 244 centres in the state.

The vaccination drive has received massive response in all the districts of Assam.

A total of 22.76 lakh people have been administered the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 6.41 lakh people have received the second dose in the state.

Assam’s COVID-19 tally went up to 2,83,313 as the state reported this year’s highest single-day spike of 5,626 fresh cases yesterday.

On the other hand, 47 new fatalities pushed the state’s coronavirus death toll to 1,578.
