Assam records 1367 fresh COVID-19 cases, biggest single-day spike of 2021

GUWAHATI: Assam's COVID-19 tally today mounted to 2,25,822 as the state reported this year's highest single-day spike of 1367 fresh cases.

Seven fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 1,142, while 1,347 patients have died so far due to other reasons.

Kamrup (M) recorded four deaths while Baksa, Cachar and Kamrup reported one death each.

Kamrup (M) district reported the highest number of new cases at 482, followed by 109 in Dibrugarh, 106 in Kamrup and 67 in Sonitpur districts.

Assam now has 6,316 active cases, while 2,17,017 people have so far been cured of the disease, taking the recovery rate among the coronavirus patients to 96.10 per cent. A total of 312 patients were discharged today from different hospitals of the state.

The state tested 65,410 samples today.

A total of 13,43,375 people have been administered the first dose of the vaccine, while 3,19,416 people have received the second dose.

Meanwhile, prime minister Narendra Modi today interacted with doctors from Assam through video conferencing.

Three doctors from the state Dr Achyut Baishya, Dr Abhijit Sarmah and Dr Abhijit Hazarika took part in the video conference with the prime minister.
