Assam records highest single day COVID-19 fatality as 26 more succumb today

GUWAHATI: Assam recorded 26 more deaths due to COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,281, while 3,079 fresh positive cases took the tally to 2,49,926.

Of the 26 new deaths, 15 were reported from Kamrup (M), followed by Jorhat three, Cachar two, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Kokrajhar and Tinsukia districts one each. 1,347 more COVID-19 patients have died for other reasons so far in the state.

Assam currently has 23,104 active COVID-19 cases.

During the day, 1,797 people recovered from the disease taking the total number of recoveries to 2,24,194.

The 3,079 new positive cases included 1,029 from Kamrup (M), 238 from Dibrugarh, 234 from Kamrup and 156 from Nagaon district.

Altogether 67,278 samples were tested for COVID-19 during the last 24 hours taking the total number of such tests to 85,32,696.

On the other hand, a total of 23,17,857 people have received the COVID-19 vaccine so far in the state.
