GUWAHATI: The Assam health and family welfare department has issued a revised discharge protocol for COVID-19 patients that will encompass all asymptomatic, symptomatic, and patients with severe diseases (including immune-compromised patients) yesterday.

Asymptomatic COVID-19 patients will be isolated and treated at COVID care centres, the guideline stated.

Asymptomatic individuals with positive RAT/RT-PCR test results who remain asymptomatic during their stay in the hospital's isolation ward can be discharged on the seventh day from the date of collection of the first positive sample, if certain criteria are met.

There should be no fever and no symptoms for at least 3 consecutive days before discharge (without use of antipyretics).

Further, patients should maintain oxygen saturation (SPO2) above 94% for at least 3 days without oxygen support

In case of patients with negative RAT test, if RAT test is done on the 7th day is positive, the test shall be repeated every 72 hours till negative.

At the time of discharge, the patient shall be advised home isolation for 10 days (under active surveillance for 3 days and passive surveillance for 7 days).

Moreover, the health department also issued certain protocol for the symptomatic patients, these are:

All COVID-19 positive symptomatic patients must be isolated and treated at a COVID-specific hospital. The patients' temperatures and oxygen saturation (SPO2) levels will be monitored on a regular basis.

The patients can be discharged only after 7 days from the date of collection of 1 positive sample, if the following criteria are met:

No fever and no symptoms for at least 3 consecutive days before discharge (without use of antipyretics)

Maintenance of oxygen saturation (SPO2) above 94% in room air for at-least 3(three) days without oxygen support.

Negative RAT test.

If the RAT test on the 7th day is positive, the test shall be repeated every 72 hours till negative.

At the time of discharge, the patient shall be advised home isolation for 10 days (under active surveillance for 3 days and passive surveillance for 7 days).

Discharge criteria for severe cases will be based on clinical recovery and negative RT-PCR test (after resolution of Symptoms):

These patients can be discharged from hospital if following criteria are met:

No fever and no symptoms for at least 3 consecutive days before discharge (without use of antipyretics).

Maintenance of oxygen saturation (SPO2) above 94% in room air for at least 3 days without oxygen support c) Negative RTPCR test.
