Assam Rifles personnel hurt in Imphal grenade attack

IMPHAL: An Assam Rifles personnel was injured when a suspected insurgent lobbed a China-made hand grenade at the transit camp at North AOC here on Wednesday night.

The injured has been identified as Bimal Rai and was on sentry duty at the entrance of the transit camp when it came under attack.

According to police, an unidentified scooter rider threw the grenade and managed to escape. The sentry was injured by shrapnel.

An Imphal West district police team also re-arrested one Momong Haokip from the border town of Moreh and handed him over to Lamphel police.

He was taken into custody on a drug-related charge. He escaped on February 28 when he was being taken to court.
