In a major awareness drive ahead of the monsoon season, a team of high-ranked Government officials on Saturday carried out a survey in flood-prone areas of the city such as Khanapara, VIP road, Satgaon, Narangi, Bonda, etc, and reviewed the flood mitigation work undertaken by various departments.

The team included senior Government officials led by Principal Secretary, Guwahati Development Department, Maninder Singh along with Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (Metropolitan) Biswajit Pegu, Commissioner GMC, CEO GMDA, and other officials from DDMA, GMC, GMDA, NHAI, PWD (R), who surveyed of the progress of flood mitigation works by different departments underway in flood-prone areas of Guwahati city.

The team also directed the departments concerned to expedite the excavation and cleaning activities of all the natural water channels in and around Guwahati, including major and internal drains around the city and plan for long term measures to mitigate the city’s artificial water-logging problem.

It is to be mentioned that the city experiences severe flood during the rainy day due to improper sewage and drainage plans.
