Assam Shuttlers Shine in All India Badminton Championships Held at Imphal

Imphal, July 27, 2019:

Unseeded Isharani Baruah of Assam has won the girl's single title (U-17) of the Yonex Sunrise All India Sub-Junior (U-15 & U-17) Ranking Tournament, 2019, at Imphal on Saturday. In the final, she defeated sixth seeded Kirti Bharandwaj of Kanartaka in three sets - 21-15, 8-21 and 21-15.

T Baruah of Assam partnerED with L Sharma of Punjab and got the second position in the under 15 boy's double. In the final Ankit Mondal of West Bengal and Lokesh Reddy K of Telangana State defeated Barua and L Sharma in straight sets - 21-17 and 21-14 and won the title.

In the boy's double's U-17 final, H Amsakaruanan and RR, both from Tamil Nadu, defeated the duo of Orissa and Kanartaka - Ayush Pattnayak and Subas in straight set.

G Karthiyeyan and S Sikkandar of Tamil Nadu won the girl's double title U-15 smashing Andrea Sara Kurien and Pavittra Naveen of Kerala in 3 sets.

Tara Shah of Maharashtra, the 2nd seed, upset top seeded Tanim Mir of Gujarat in three sets in the girl's U-15 single final. Raghav of Haryana (13 seeded) upset Lashay Sharma (8th seeded) of Punjab in the boy's U-15 single final.

Top seeded Anathakumar and T Memanth of Kanartaka won the girl's double final U-17 defeating Gnananda Kathikeyan and Sania Sikkandar of Tamil Nadu in three sets.

Boy's U-17 single title went to the top seeded Pranav Rao Gandham of Telangana when he shocked the 2nd seeded Shutham Patel of Rajasthan in straight sets.

The Tournament was organised by Manipur Badminton Association under the aegis of Badminton Association of India at Main Stadium Khuman Lampak, Imphal.

Over 1,200 U-15 and U-17 players from across India compete in the singles, and doubles events. Manipur deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar who is also the president of Manipur Badminton Association (MBA) said that based on the performance of the players in this tournament along with another tournament to be held from July 29 at Guwahati, the players will be selected to represent Indian team for participation in Asian Junior Championship 2019.
